On most assessment notices and returns issued by the Dutch Tax Administration you may find a certain code; this code gives information on the type of assessment notice or return and the period it covers. Click the link below for an overview of what each code stands for.

Short-term postponement of tax payment
If you meet all the prerequisites, you may be granted short-term postponement of tax payment by phone. Tax payment may be postponed up to 4 months, counting from the day after the payment deadline. Please note that you will be charged interest on overdue tax.
The meaning of the codes our tax administration uses:

If you only have your payment reference, this tool can be used to find out what your return, assessment or decision number is.
B – Turnover tax
F – Additional assessment turnover tax
O – Refund turnover tax
L – Payroll tax
A – Additional assessment payroll tax
J – Refund payroll tax – contribution health insurance
H – Income tax and contribution national insurance
N – Income tax (conscientious objectors)
Health Insurance Act
W – Health Insurance Act
V – Corporation tax
Motor vehicle tax
M – Motor vehicle tax
Y – Additional assessment motor vehicle tax
T – ending with 1 – childcare benefit
T – ending with 2 – housing benefit
T – ending with 3 – healthcare benefit
Z – Other
Before the letter, you will find the fiscal or citizen service number, and after the letter the time period and status code. These codes work as follows: the first number is the last number of the year or the period code, followed by the status code.
The status codes are:
0-5 stand for the first (1) and last (5) provisional assessment
6 stands for the final assessment
7-9 stand for the first (1) and last (3) additional assessment
The time period codes stand for either the month or quarter of the year:
21 – first quarter
24 – second quarter
27 – third quarter
30 – fourth quarter
Examples (0000.00.000 being the fiscal/citizen service number):
0000.00.000.H.46 – final assessment income tax 2014
0000.00.000.B.01.5040 – turnover tax 2015
